Logistics & Import Coordinator

Des Moines, IA Full-Time Manufacturing

We are looking for a dependable Logistics & Import Coordinator for an international manufacturer moving its U.S. operation into a new plant and office in the greater Des Moines area. This is a full-time, direct-hire, on-site position. Training starts at the company's current Des Moines office in December 2026, and the role moves to the new plant in January 2027. The exact plant location is shared during the interview.

You will own the shipping paperwork from the office: issuing invoices, booking carriers, preparing bills of lading and packing lists, and handling the documents for ocean containers arriving from overseas, including customs release. You will also help run the warehouse through the company's warehouse management system and take on some purchasing. A warehouse and forklift operator joins in February, and a strong performer may be asked to supervise that person.

This role needs 3 or more years in logistics, shipping or supply chain coordination with hands-on import experience. Experience at an international company, with freight forwarders or customs brokers, supervising warehouse staff, or in purchasing is a plus. The team is small, so expect to help with other office tasks as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Issue customer invoices and shipping documents, including bills of lading and packing lists.
  • Book and manage freight carriers and keep shipments on schedule.
  • Coordinate inbound ocean containers from overseas and prepare the documents needed for customs release.
  • Work with colleagues in other countries on shipments, documents and timing.
  • Keep inventory and warehouse transactions accurate in the company's warehouse management system (WMS).
  • Help organize the warehouse, including receiving, storage, and loading and unloading of containers.
  • Create purchase orders and handle other purchasing tasks as assigned.
  • Direct the daily work of the warehouse and forklift operator once that role is filled, if asked.
  • Take on other office tasks as needed on a small, growing team.

Requirements

  • 3+ years in logistics, shipping or supply chain coordination.
  • Hands-on experience with import shipments: containers, bills of lading, packing lists and customs paperwork.
  • Experience with a warehouse management or ERP system.
  • Strong computer skills and accuracy with documents and numbers.
  • Able to communicate clearly in English with carriers, customs contacts and coworkers abroad.
  • Able to train in Des Moines for the first weeks, then work on-site at the new plant.
